The idea of Alliance for Change in Education (ACE) came up in 2003 with Ibis and School for Life in Ghana. In 2004 the Danish partners in the programme - Ibis, Danmarkslærerforening (the trade union of Danish teachers) and GV - began developing the idea further, and a concept paper was sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. After a thorough preparatory process including Danish and Ghanaian parter organisations and other stakeholders ACE obtained Danida financing in 2007.
The programme started on 1st April 2007 with an award of DKK 19,6 million and runs until the end of february 2011 in the districts of Gushegu and Karaga.
An application for a second phase awaits an approval by Danida.
